To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: God in his infinite wisdom called our beloved, Jessie Mae Wilson, 84, home on March 14, 2014, at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center (Nansemond Pointe). She was born on Dec. 23, 1929, in Nansemond County to the late Nancy Brown. She was later adopted and raised by the late Sarah and James Wilson.

Jessie Mae graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1948. She worked at Obici Hospital and as a domestic worker until she retired. She was a member of the United Order of Tents, and the Williamstown/Boston Civic League. She was also a caregiver to many and enjoyed helping and taking care of the elderly. She was known for her love of great cooking and sewing.

She was a faithful member of Bethlehem Christian Church for many years where she served as a Sunday school teacher, a trustee, chairperson of the Hospitality Committee, and president of the Usher Ministry.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one devoted daughter and son-in-law, Sarah “Yvette” and Bernard King Jr., of Suffolk; one adopted daughter, Mary Wilkins (Tony), of Suffolk; one sister, Eunice Smith, of Norfolk; one brother, Moses Brown, of Suffolk; one granddaughter, Shavon Williams (Decourcy), of Fredericksburg; one grandson, Armaud Eason, of Suffolk; eight great-grandchildren; two loyal cousins, Clara March and Mary Francis Myrick, both of Suffolk; three lifelong friends, Maggie Gay, Ella Mae Myrick and Ann Wilson, all of Suffolk; one goddaughter, Chasity Adams, of Stafford; one dedicated caregiver, Gloria Green, of Suffolk; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would also like to extend special thanks to Andrea McLaurin, Stephania Coles and Lavonda Jones from Kindred Healthcare, Heartland Hospice Care and the staff of All for You In-Home Healthcare.

A celebration of life service will be held at noon on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Bethlehem Christian Church, 312 Bute St., Suffolk, officiated by Pastor Emanuel Myrick. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 130 Pitchkettle Road. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
