To the editor:


In an article published on March 22 in the Suffolk News Herald, Suffolk Fire and Rescue Chief Cedric Scott attributed higher than anticipated overtime in his department to “several inclement weather events.”

I respectfully request that he list for the taxpayers who pay this bill the “several inclement weather events” that occurred between July 1, 2013, and Oct. 31, 2013, that led to the necessity of transferring nearly $600,000 into his overtime budget in October 2013. It would be appropriate for him to list each event and the amount of overtime incurred for each event.

I further request that he list each “inclement weather event” that occurred between Nov. 1, 2013, and Dec. 31, 2013, that necessitated the additional transfer of more than $150,000 into his overtime budget in December 2013. He should further list each event and the overtime incurred for each event.

I and other taxpayers in Suffolk would appreciate a prompt response.
