The Nansemond River High School boys’ soccer team took on the acclaimed visitors from Oscar Smith High School on Tuesday and left them with their first loss of the season — 3-0.
Warriors head coach Dustin Tordoff stated in a text message that what made the difference in the game was Nansemond River’s full-team effort, the way his squad capitalized on its opportunities, won every 50/50 ball and made all the hustle plays.
“We had a game plan based on how they usually play,” Tordoff stated. “We had not seen them at all and made some in-game adjustments, but we executed our plan very well.”
Leading the offensive effort for the Warriors was senior team captain Gabe Everette, who had a goal and an assist. Sophomores Brayan Morales and Maliq Webster each scored once. Webster’s goal was the first of his career.
Nansemond River (3-2, 1-0) visits King’s Fork High School on Friday.
