The Suffolk Chargers, the city’s semi-professional football team, kicked off its spring season in the Atlantic Coast Football Alliance with a 12-6 loss to the Virginia Warriors at John F. Kennedy Middle School.
However, Chargers owner Angela Harper noted it was a good game, though quarterback Walter Boykins got injured. Harper’s son, Andre “AJ” Harper, took over at quarterback and accounted for the team’s points when he threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Tarrell Lassiter.
Suffolk (0-1) hosts the Virginia Swarm at 6 p.m. on Saturday at John F. Kennedy Middle School.
