Suffolk’s Olivia Florian took the lead for good on lap 5 and sailed to her fourth win in the last five races in the 30-lap Rainbow Station/Camp Blue Sky Youth Series feature at last Saturday’s Interstate Batteries 200 for Arena Racing USA at the Richmond Coliseum.

Chase Burrow drew the pole, sharing the front row with Savannah Nickens. Florian and Mini Tyrrell made up Row 2, while Garrett Manes and Aubrey Hill were in Row 3.

The event got off to a rocky start with misfires on the first two green-flag attempts. Manes and Hill were relegated to the infield in the second incident, eliminated before lap 1 was in the books.

When the race finally got rolling, Burrow jumped out front, bringing Florian along with him, while Tyrrell moved up to third. On lap 5, Florian ducked underneath Burrow in Turn 2 and grabbed the lead as they exited Turn 4. By lap 11, she had pulled away by nearly a full straightaway over Burrow, who had his hands full with a challenge from Tyrrell. Tyrrell moved into second on lap 12.

The third and final caution flag flew on lap 14 when Jay Seward and Logan Jones tangled off Turn 2.

On the last restart, Florian and Tyrrell broke away in nose-to-tail formation, seemingly setting up a two-way duel for the win. As the laps clicked off, however, Florian began to ease away from Tyrrell.

By the finish, Florian’s winning margin had grown to more than half a straightaway. Tyrrell was second, while Burrow, Nickens and Seward completed the top five. Early retirees Jones, Manes and Hill were credited with sixth, seventh and eighth, in that order.
