Suffolk Parks and Recreation is currently in week two of a free six-week tennis session called the Weekend Warriors. Every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, players, regardless of age, who are at least at the intermediate level, convene to compete in singles and doubles matches at the Howard Mast Tennis Complex on 201 Holly Lawn Parkway.
Though the session has already started, registration is still open.
“The only thing that’s required is a can of balls,” said Janice Henderson of Suffolk Parks and Recreation.
Henderson defined intermediate players as those that can do rallies and are experienced with game scoring.
She said at least 12 players come out every weekend, including some intermediate youth players.
“This gives them the ability to play experienced players, so they’re learning, as well as playing, so it’s a beneficial thing for youth players,” Henderson said.
