Atlantic Shores Christian School’s baseball team entered the top of the seventh inning on Thursday trailing host Isle of Wight Academy by one. It exited its contest against the Chargers with a 6-5 victory.
IWA senior starting pitcher Travis Jones allowed a walk and two hits in the seventh, and that, combined with an error in right field, helped the Seahawks take the lead it never gave up.
The loss came despite Jones’ exceptional offensive showing, hitting a one-out grand slam to left field in the first inning. He finished the game 2-for-2 with a run scored. Senior Reid Taylor went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Isle of Wight (1-4, 1-1) travels to Portsmouth Christian School on Tuesday for a doubleheader.
