Jerry Lorenzo Rodgers Sr. entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, while at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was born on Jan. 25, 1943, in Suffolk, to the late Isaac Rodgers Sr. and Alethia Fields Rodgers.

Jerry attended East Suffolk High School and later worked for General Electric.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dollie Rodgers and Mary “Janie” Boone; brothers, Isaac “Buster” Rodgers Jr. and Willie “D” Rodgers; and great-grandson Baby Amir Newby.

Jerry leaves behind a daughter, Christy R. Eley; a son, Jerry L. Rodgers Jr.; sisters, Vivian Simpkin and Sylvia Gwaltney (Clifton); four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. Rodgers will be on view at the funeral home on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. A funeral service will take place on Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel, and he will be laid to rest in the T.E. Cooke-Overton Garden of Carver Memorial Cemetery.
