Suffolk police are investigating a fatal accident that took place Sunday night on Hosier Road.

Jeffrey Fenton Pope, 43, of Suffolk, has been identified as the victim.

The single-vehicle accident took place around 8:30 p.m. when the vehicle, traveling southbound, left the road and struck a tree, according to a city press release. Pope, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pinned and required extrication from the car. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

The roadway in the 1700 block of Hosier Road was closed for several hours as the investigation took place.
