Suffolk Fire and Rescue EMS personnel were dispatched about 2:45 p.m. Thursday to Kenyon Road, near its intersection with Holland Road, after a 12-year-old boy was believed to be unconscious on a school bus, according to city spokeswoman Diana Klink.
The child’s mother came to the scene — where the driver had pulled off the road into a vacant lot — and he was ground-transported to Sentara Obici Hospital, Klink wrote in an email.
According to school district spokeswoman Bethanne Bradshaw, “the child was having an asthma attack and might have looked unconscious for a second.”
He was enrolled in the Southeastern Cooperative Education Program, which is for students with special needs and housed at John F. Kennedy Middle School, Bradshaw wrote in an email.
Neither Klink nor Bradshaw was able to provide an update on the boy’s condition late Thursday.
