A residential fire in the 6000 block of Bradford Drive in the College Square neighborhood on Saturday left the home uninhabitable and displaced a family of four.

Emergency crews responded to call at 6:16 p.m., according to Suffolk spokeswoman Diana L. Klink. Police arrived at the scene before firefighters and were able to knock the flames down with a fire extinguisher, Klink stated in an email.

The fire was under control at 6:22 p.m., but the kitchen, where it started, had sustained heavy damage, Klink stated in a press release.

A family of four — two adults and two children — was being assisted by the American Red Cross.
