Diane Lavern Giles

Diane Lavern Giles, 53, of Suffolk, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Chesapeake Health and Rehabilitation Center in Chesapeake. She was a native of Portsmouth and the daughter of Robert Cost Sr. and the late Cherry Grant. She was preceded in death by her sister, Melody Ward; one grandchild, Takia Simmons.

She attended Cradock High School. She was employed at Suffolk Public Schools as a teacher assistant until her health failed. She was a member of Higher Dimensions Family Outreach Center, where she was an armor bearer for the pastor and the church clerk.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Curtis Giles; one daughter, Marquisha Barner; one son, Vincent Chase Hall; six sisters, Joa nne Hall, Belinda Avery, Roberta Hall, Andrea Hall, Veronica Grant and Kimberly Grant; two brothers, Carl Hall and Keith Grant; five grandchildren, Marquise, Jakia, Mya, Jamari Simmons and Julius Hall; and one great-grandchild, Kasen Simmons; mother-in-law, Gracie Giles; one sister-in-law, Shelia White; five brothers-in-law, Reginald White, Terry White, Robert Giles, John Lassiter and Anthony White; other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at New Paul’s Temple Church officiated by Bishop Mavis Goodman. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
