Lt. James E. Thompson Jr. departed this life on Thursday, May 29, 2014. He was born on Jan. 8, 1950, to Lillie Silver Thompson and the late James E. Thompson Sr. in Suffolk.

Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Loretta Heath Thompson; son, the Rev. James E. Thompson III (Lisa); daughter, Alexis N. Thompson; four grandchildren, Gabrielle Williams (Russell), James Thompson IV, Aaliyah Thompson and Jeremiah Thompson; sister, Cynthia Thompson Royster; niece, Dr. Andrea Wilkins; nephew, Patrick Royster (Angie); two great-grandchildren, Angel and Annina; one great-niece and three great-nephews; other relatives and many friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Monday, June 2, 2014, at First Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Steven G. Blunt. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2014, from 4 to 5 p.m. at Crocker Funeral Home. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
