Folks will be hitting the streets for fitness this Saturday at the fifth annual Suffolk on the Move 5K Run and Walk and 1-Mile Walk.

Wednesday at 5 p.m. is the last time to register. There is no on-site registration.

“The Suffolk on the Move annual 5K is all about getting people active, promoting physical fitness and encouraging a healthy lifestyle,” said Suffolk Partnership for a Healthy Community Robbie Laughton. “We’re expecting an awesome event, great weather and a big turnout for this free event.”

About 420 people already are pre-registered. In the interest of promoting fitness more than competition, the races are not officially timed and are non-competitive. Participants who want to know their time must self-time, Laughton said.

Door prizes, rather than prizes for coming in first, will be given immediately after the event. You must be present to win. The first 500 participants also will receive a commemorative medallion in honor of the event’s fifth anniversary.

Participants are asked to bring at least one non-perishable canned good to donate to the Salvation Army’s food bank.

The event begins and ends at Constant’s Wharf Park, 110 E. Constance Road. Registration opens at 6:30 a.m., followed by warm-up at 7 and the races at 7:30, with staggered starts.

The entire event will end around 10 a.m., Laughton said.

It is co-sponsored by the Suffolk Partnership for a Healthy Community and the Suffolk Parks and Recreation Department.
