UPDATED 4:20 p.m.: The severe thunderstorm warning issued earlier has expired. The city remains under a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m.

Earlier: The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Suffolk and surrounding areas until 3:45 p.m.

The storm is capable of producing quarter-size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hour, according to the weather service.

For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of your home or business, the weather service cautioned. Heavy rains flood roads quickly, so do not drive into areas where water covers the road.
