The flood advisory has expired.
Earlier: After about four inches of rain in Suffolk in the last 24 hours, the National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for the city and surrounding areas through 6 p.m.
Flooding can be expected along small streams, in low-lying areas and in areas of poor drainage, according to the weather service. This includes highways and underpasses.
Motorists should not attempt to cross bridges, dips or low water crossings if water covers the roadway. A flowing stream, even a small one, can sweep away a vehicle or pedestrian.
Do not drive around barricades set up to block water-covered roadways.
Report flooding to the National Weather Service by calling 1-800-737-8624 or to the Suffolk Police Department at 923-2350, option 0.
