Hold the IRS to account

To the editor:
The latest development in the IRS scandal is absolutely unbelievable. In spite of all of the incriminating evidence against his agency, the IRS commissioner expects us to believe that a computer crash deleted months of emails from Lois Lerner, a central figure in the investigation.
To make matters worse, the people at the center of this scandal are getting a free pass from the Obama administration. As long as the Justice Department refuses to take action, we will continue to get these wild stories and convenient excuses.
Fortunately, Congressman Randy Forbes has called for an independent special counsel to lead an investigation into the IRS. We need a neutral investigator to get to the bottom of this scandal and to shed light on the individuals who are responsible.
If we do not demand action now, this kind of intimidation and discrimination will only happen again. Now is the time to hold the IRS accountable.
