Fly is the son of Eric and Carol Fly of Wakefield; brother of C.J., Philip, Chris and Ben; and the grandson of Emma Jean Brady of Smithfield and Jean Fly of Suffolk.
His brother Philip delivered the Eagle charge to Jeremiah. Also participating in the program were cousin Robert Fly; friend Enoch Councill; speakers Daniel Gruber, Skip Irwin and Mark Evans; and scoutmaster and father Eric Fly.
Fly recently graduated with an advanced diploma from Windsor High School, where he played varsity soccer and was a member of the Beta Club, the Art Club and the Drama Club. He is active in his church young men’s program and serves as the Senior Patrol Leader in Troop 24.
In August, Fly plans to go to Guatemala to serve a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Fly began his Scouting career in 2002 as a Tiger Cub in Cub Scout Pack 24 of Wakefield. He participated in many fun events as a Cub Scout including sleepovers at nearby museums and local field trips. He was a fierce Pinewood Derby racer — winning first place every year but one and going on to compete at the district level.
He earned all the ranks of Cub Scouting and received his Arrow of Light Award in 2007.
Fly joined Troop 24 in June 2007 and attended his first summer camp at Camp Ottari. He has attended a total of seven different summer camps and has participated in an Appalachian Trail hike, whitewater canoe trips and mountain biking trips. He has earned 36 merit badges and is a member of the Order of the Arrow.
Fly’s Eagle Scout project included cleaning and preserving Civil War history. He helped clean a statue of a Civil war soldier on the grounds of the Sussex Courthouse and transcribed the Muster Rolls of the soldiers from Sussex County from the original books, preparing them for availability as typed and digital copies.
He completed his project in March.
Fly is the 10th scout from Troop 24 to earn his Eagle Scout rank since the troop was reorganized in 1998. Previous Eagle scouts include Richard Bushie, Brooks Spain, Jason Bushie, L.B. Laine, C.J. Fly, Aaron Spain, Caleb McNabb, Philip Fly and Jason Harter.
Fly plans to continue with scouting and Troop 24, to help it grow and introduce the benefits of scouting to the young men of the Wakefield community.
