Two separate accidents kept rescue crews and the police department busy on Tuesday afternoon.

The first accident happened at 12:33 p.m. in the 7900 block of Gates Road. An 18-wheeler hauling a load of bricks overturned, according to a city press release. One lane of traffic was shut down as the roadway is cleared. There were no injuries, and the accident is under investigation.

The second accident happened at 12:48 p.m. at the intersection of Wilroy Road and Nansemond Parkway. The passenger vehicle struck a Dominion Virginia Power pole, according to the news release. The driver declined medical treatment, the release stated.

Traffic was detoured along Progress Road. The cause is under investigation.

About a dozen customers were out of power for part of the afternoon due to the accident.
