Grand jury indicts 48

A man accused in the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl has been indicted on charges relating to the crime.
James Edward Hall, 53, of the 100 block of Kilby Avenue, was indicted Monday on charges including abduction and sexual battery.
In addition, a man accused in a May stabbing was indicted on charges of aggravated malicious wounding and shoot, stab, cut or wound.
Robert Henry Smith, 64, faces the charges in connection with the stabbing that happened May 2 on Day Street just after 6 p.m. The victim was stabbed in the chest and was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, a city spokeswoman said at the time.
Smith is among 48 defendants indicted by the grand jury Monday on 88 charges, not including sealed indictments.
