Karen Boone Skeeter, 58, of 1424 Pinto Court, Suffolk, died July 28, 2014.

Born on Jan. 25, 1956, in Portsmouth, she was a graduate of Manor High School, class of 1974. She attended Old Dominion University and received an associate degree in theology at Rising Saint James Pentecostal Church, class of 2011. She had been employed for 26 years at the U.S. Coast Guard Finance Center. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church and served as a missionary.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Gwendolyn Simms Boone, and brother, Alan Ray Boone.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis Skeeter; her father, Jesse Boone Jr. (Gracie); daughters, Helen S. Friday (Robert) and Victoria Skeeter, of Suffolk, and Julia S. Kilgore (Nicholas), of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Petticolas (Pep), Cynthia Williams (Bennie), Sheryl Boone, Vanessa Johnson (Eugene), Janet Boone, Juanita Boone and Debbie Wilkins (Troy); brothers, David Boone Sr. (Sherrie), Jesse Boone III (Tambra) and Carlton Boone; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A wake will be held Friday, Aug. 1, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Crocker Funeral Home. Funeral will be held at Tabernacle Christian Church, 2500 E. Washington St., at noon on Saturday, Aug. 2. Entombment at Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1424 Pinto Court.
