Daryle Halterman couldn’t believe it when he scratched a Lucky Numbers ticket from the Virginia Lottery and realized it was a top-prize winner.
“I was dumbfounded!” the Suffolk man said as he claimed the $125,000 prize.
It happened at Gas N Go, 1504 Holland Road. After scratching the ticket, Halterman showed it to the clerk, just to confirm what he thought he saw.
“Tell me this is real!” he said.
The clerk took a look at the ticket and hugged him. That’s when he knew he’d really won.
Halterman, who is an agricultural inspector, said he intends to pay bills with his winnings.
Lucky Numbers is one of dozens of Scratcher games available from the Virginia Lottery. It features prizes ranging from $5 up to $125,000. Halterman is the first player to claim the top prize in the game, meaning there are five unclaimed $125,000 prizes remaining.
