Mary Virginia Boone Artis, 87, passed away Aug. 7, 2014. She was born in Gates County, N.C., and attended Gates County School System.

She was the second oldest of eight siblings, Elvie Boone (deceased Aug. 12, 2014), Hardy Cleveland Boone, Joyce Russell, Margie Raynor, Charlie Boone, Doris Lewis and Deborah Goodman. She is survived by her children, Theresia Jones, Myra Forbes, Frankie Artis, Gary Artis, in-laws, cousins, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Elvin T. Artis; a son, Lorenza Artis; and a grandson, Jazemond Eure.
A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at noon at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 6100 Holy Neck Road, Suffolk, VA 23437. Condolences may be expressed to the family at fartis340@yahoo.com. Corprew Funeral Home is in charge.
