One sent to hospital after Route 58 pileup

A five-vehicle crash sent one man to the hospital and backed up traffic on Route 58 westbound on Friday morning.

The crash happened at 10:06 a.m. just before the Wilroy Road exit, according to a city news release. A Honda Pilot, two Ford F-150 pickup trucks, a Nissan passenger vehicle and an Acura passenger vehicle were involved.

All motorists and passengers were evaluated on scene by Suffolk Fire and Rescue personnel, according to the release. One male was taken to Sentara Obici Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Both westbound lanes were closed, but traffic continued westbound via the exit lane. The lanes reopened before noon.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
