Linda Elizabeth Turner Saunders, 71, went to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Aug. 21, 2014, after a long battle with dementia/Parkinson’s. She was born in Nansemond County, the daughter of the late Willie Lee and Lucille Duke Turner. She answered the call of God by owning and operating The Christian Bookstore in Suffolk.  Linda was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a former member of the Junior Women’s Club, Ladies Auxiliary of the Nansemond-Suffolk Volunteer Rescue Squad, and former Senior Girl Scout leader.

Linda is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert Gary Saunders Sr.; daughter, Angela Saunders Smith and husband, Daryl, of Virginia Beach; and son, Robert “Rob” Gary Saunders Jr., of Denver, Colo.; and numerous other loving family and friends.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 237 N. Main St., Suffolk, with Dr. Thurman Hayes Jr. and the Rev. Lindsay Poteat officiating. Interment will follow at Liberty Spring Christian Church. Visitation will be Monday night from 7 to 8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, VA 23434 and other times at the residence.
