To the editor:

I thought the article in the Suffolk News-Herald on Aug. 22 regarding the most recent meeting of the Hampton Roads Transportation Accountability Commission retreat was excellent, and the community is fortunate that you had a reporter attend.

This commission will expend millions of taxpayer dollars to remedy transportation problems in Hampton Roads, and it is important that what it does and how its publicly elected members conduct its business to solve transportation issues be closely scrutinized.

That $200 million in annual tax revenue is a large sum that has been set aside for a very important purpose.
