Downtown streets reopen after bomb threat

The Godwin Courts Building and streets surrounding it were closed for almost three hours on Thursday afternoon after a bomb threat.

City spokeswoman Diana Klink said the threat was received at 12:21 p.m.

The 100 blocks of East Washington, Bank, Commerce and North Main streets were closed while the investigation continued. Traffic was redirected around the scene.

Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire and Rescue investigated and cleared the building, with the help of a bomb-sniffing dog.

The courthouse reopened about 3 p.m.
