Accident slows Route 58 traffic

A two-vehicle accident on Route 58 eastbound slowed rush-hour traffic Monday morning.
Reported at 7:31 a.m., the accident involved a crane and a passenger vehicle, according to a city news release. The preliminary investigation revealed the crane was traveling across three lanes of traffic and was struck by a passenger vehicle.
The female driver of the passenger vehicle was ground transported to Sentara Obici Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Two lanes of Route 58 eastbound were briefly closed. The far left lane and the crossover to the landfill remained closed until about 11:30 a.m. while crews cleaned up the hazardous materials spill and debris.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
