Police investigate robbery, carjacking

Police are investigating an armed robbery and carjacking reported early Monday morning in downtown Suffolk.

The crime was reported at 2:04 a.m. in the parking lot of Kelly’s Tavern, 100 block of West Constance Road, according to a city news release. The victims told police they were leaving the establishment shortly after it closed and were approached by two black males armed with handguns that demanded the victim’s keys and wallets. The suspects fled in one of the victim’s vehicles, a black 2004 Saturn Vue with Virginia license plates. The two victims, a male and a female, were not injured.

Police searched the area but did not find the car. Information has been provided to neighboring jurisdictions, according to the news release.
