The injury-riddled Nansemond-Suffolk Academy football team traveled to the home of the defending VISAA Division II state champions on Friday night and ended up in a shootout.
Host Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School is known for its prolific offense, and the Crusaders managed to put up more than enough points necessary to defeat their visitors, dealing the Saints a 62-40 loss.
In the two teams’ meeting last season, Bishop Sullivan won 42-30, and it prevailed 50-44 over The Potomac School in the 2013 Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II state title game.
NSA had some key defensive players hobbled, including sophomore linebacker Ke’Shaun Moore who did not play, but junior linebacker Cole Christiansen did his best to pick up the slack. He produced an outstanding effort with 16 tackles and three sacks.
Nansemond-Suffolk (3-2) hosts St. Anne’s-Belfield School next Friday night.
