SUFFOLK — Clive “John” Arnold Oliver Sr. 81, passed away Friday, Oct. 3, 2014. He was predeceased by his parents, Melvina Stoddard and Don Harding. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He was a U.S. Navy boatswain’s mate serving in Korea. John was a barber for almost 50 years and ran Mr. D’s Barber Shop for more than 25 years. He attended St. Mary of the Presentation Catholic Church and was a member of Knights of Columbus as 4th Degree Knight.

He is survived by his loving wife, Roxene F. Oliver, of Suffolk; children, Renee Wright and husband, Larry, of Woodway, Texas, Clive A. Oliver Jr. and wife, Allyson, of Virginia Beach; Denise Altman and husband, Tommy, of Chesapeake, Jessica Worley and husband, James, of Suffolk, and Dan Smalt II, of Suffolk; grandchildren, Matthew, Blake, A.J., Dana, Madalyn, Larry, Adam, Stevie, John, Tommy and Chrissy; and several great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, at 2 p.m. at St. Mary of the Presentation Catholic Church, 202 S. Broad St., Suffolk, with Father Kenneth Wood officiating with burial at Albert G. Horton Jr., Memorial Veterans Cemetery. R.W. Baker & Co.
