Johnnie Wilson “Monk” Abbott Sr., 71, passed away Oct. 15, 2014. Monk was born in Suffolk to the late Johnnie M. and Minnie F. Abbott. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Betty A. Hobbs.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 52 years, Joan R. Abbott; his children, Johnnie W. Abbott (Terri), Sherry A. Outland (John), Herbie P. Abbott (Darlene) and Kim A. Gomer (Lance); eight grandchildren, Amber (Missy), Joan (Joanie), Sarah (Bugger), Cameron (Button), Herbie (Macon), Johnnie (J.W.), Garrett (Shotgun) and Darlena; sister and brother-in-law Patty A. Harrington (Jimmy); and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Richard and Linda Rodgers; four great-grandchildren, Brayden (Stump), Maverick (Roper), Jace (Spud) and Alivia.
Monk loved his family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He offered them valuable advice and was an excellent role model. He had a passion and love for his horses (Baby and Freckles) and enjoyed his trail rides with his close and dear friends and enjoyed spending time with his hunting and fishing buddies. Monk never met a stranger.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, VA 23434 with the Rev. Tony Peaks officiating. Interment will follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service and other times at the residence.
