Marianne H. Engels, 89, passed away on Oct. 15, 2014 at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk. She was born on Dec. 4, 1924, raised and educated in Rome, Ga. She was the daughter of Abner Camp and Jessica Glover Hogg. She and her husband were residents of Norfolk for 54 years, and she then moved to the Lake Prince Woods Retirement Center in Suffolk in 2004.

She was predeceased by her husband, Darial F. Engels, in 2002, and also by her brother, Glover Hogg, and sister, Sarah Allison Hogg, both of Rome, Ga.

She was a member of Ocean View Baptist Church in Norfolk for 26 years and then joined Oakland Christian Church in Chuckatuck in 2008.

She is survived by three children, Darial G. Engels, of Charlottesville, Mark A. Engels and his wife, Jo, of Richmond, and daughter Susan E. Vaughn and husband, Lindsey, and two grandsons, Tyler Vaughn of Los Angeles, Calif., and Riley Vaughn, of Richmond. She is also survived by a sister, Elizabeth H. Chisholm, and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk with Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, VA 23434 in charge.
