Mother sentenced to 14 years

A Suffolk mother was sentenced to 14 years in prison Monday for a July 20, 2013, shooting in which her son was also allegedly involved.
Gwendolyn Lee Burton-Green, 42, was charged with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, shoot, stab, cut or wound and robbery.
The victim, a male who was 20 years old at the time, was shot about 10:40 p.m. that Saturday in the 300 block of Wellons Street, according to police information at the time. He required surgery at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Following her sentence, Burton-Green will be on supervised probation for 10 years. She also has 21 years on a suspended sentence, which could be revoked if she gets into further trouble with the law during her release.
Burton-Green’s son, Taquan Deandra Burton, 20, is charged in the same shooting and has a trial set for Nov. 7.
