Sanford

Sanford

Born in 1922 on a small farm in West Virginia with no plumbing or electricity, Virginia was one of 10 children. Recruited from West Virginia during World War II to work at the Norfolk Naval Air Station, she met her husband of 66 years, Macon Sanford, who predeceased her in 2009. Her life was devoted to her husband, family and church, and she loved to garden and cook (especially her famous chocolate chip cookies). Virginia and Macon helped found two Baptist churches, Brooks Baptist and Bayside Baptist in Virginia Beach, and were members of First Baptist Suffolk for many years.

Virginia is survived by her son, Ralph Macon Sanford, and predeceased by her daughter, Judy Caddle. Her family was everything, and she lovingly played with, cooked for, and helped her grandchildren, Tim, Mark and Christopher Sanford, Jennifer Sanford-Johnson, Amy Birdsong, Suzann Guinn and Mary Beth Sunderman, and was blessed with nine great-grandchildren.
