Fire displaces two adults, dog

An early-morning fire in the 1300 block of Babbtown Road on Monday displaced two adults and a dog from their home.

The fire was reported at 4:28 p.m. Units arriving nine minutes later found smoke showing from the front door of the single-story brick ranch, with active fire in the kitchen area causing smoke damage throughout the house, according to a city news release.

Crews contained the fire to the kitchen and called it under control at 4:50 a.m., the release stated. The American Red Cross is assisting the residents with temporary lodging. The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
