Janie Williams Smith, 93, peacefully entered into eternal slumber on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, at her residence. She was born on June 4, 1921, to the late Jullious Williams and Octavia W. Williams in Portsmouth.

Janie retired from Kraft Foods (Planters). She was a devoted and active member of Canaan Baptist Church, where she served as a member of the senior choir, CE Darden Sunday School Class and missionary board.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Ogen Williams Sr. and James Smith; three children, Gloria W. Garrett, Ogene Williams Jr. and Floyd Williams; one sister, Mildred Williams; and one brother, Leon Williams.

Janie leaves behind to cherish her beautiful memory, a devoted daughter, Delores Burks (Charles); daughter, Carolyn Williams; son, Leon Williams (Sarah); sister, Dorothy Mae Everett; 12 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Ms. Smith visitation will take place from noon to 7 p.m., and the family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. The family will receive visitors at 411 Brook Ave. at all other times. A home going service will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Canaan Baptist Church, and she will be laid to rest at Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery.
