To the editor:

As a recently retired chemistry teacher from Suffolk Public Schools, I have followed the developments of the upcoming School Board election with great interest.

It is clear that careful consideration of the candidates by the electorate could result in choosing candidates who support better management of resources, improved communication and implementation of innovative ideas that will lead to increased student performance and success.

One such candidate is David Mitnick running to represent the Sleepy Hole Borough.

Prior to my retirement in 2013, I worked with David over a nine-year span on a variety of projects and witnessed firsthand his management style and effectiveness in improving student achievement. He had a unique ability to tackle tough problems while juggling multiple priorities.

As a team player, he worked collaboratively with students, parents and school staff and was open to compromise to solve problems. In addition, David was data driven and recognized the importance of measurement when assessing performance and continuous improvement.

He demonstrated innovative and proactive approaches by applying his more than 30 years of experience in the K-12 education field to solve problems. Even after his retirement in 2010, David’s passion for improving education has continued through volunteer work with the Suffolk Education Foundation in support of student scholarships and teacher grant programs.

David Mitnick is an ideal candidate for the Suffolk School Board. He has the experience, skills and talents that he will apply tirelessly to ensure school improvement and student success.

If you are a resident of Sleepy Hole Borough, David deserves your careful consideration at the ballot box. By voting for David Mitnick, you are ensuring the very best for Suffolk students.
