Site gears up for Christmas

A new partnership between the Suffolk News-Herald and ChristmasInSuffolk.com aims to increase the reach of the site that features free listings of holiday-related events in Suffolk.
This is the eighth year for the website, which was started by Tom Powell of the Addison Group.
“We’ve grown every year,” Powell said. “We have about 30,000 unique hits on the site. This year, we have an exclusive partnership with Suffolk News-Herald.”
The partnership will help drive more traffic and participation to the site, Powell hopes.
“We hope this year there will be a little more participation from the community regarding worship and community events,” Powell said. “There’s a lot of cool things happening around Suffolk.”
The website features city events like the parade and tree lighting and provides space for churches and other organizations to post their events. It also lists local charities, including the Suffolk News-Herald Cheer Fund, for people to seek out a place to give.
“People find charities on there as well,” Powell said. “People are very prone to give toward the end of the year.”
There’s even some of the fluffy white stuff on the site for those who can’t wait for winter weather (or those who want to see it only on their computer screens).
“This year on the website, we’ve made it snow,” Powell said. “It’s just something fun.”
Steve Stewart, president of Suffolk Publications LLC and publisher of the Suffolk News-Herald, said the partnership is an important one for the community.
“We are pleased to partner with Tom Powell and the Addison Group on this important community resource,” Stewart said. “Christmas in Suffolk is a ‘one-stop’ source for those looking to navigate the busy holiday season and take advantage of the many wonderful events Suffolk has to offer.”
