Driver airlifted following crash

A driver was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Friday morning following an accident on Carolina Road.

It happened at 9:11 a.m. in the 5100 block of Carolina Road, according to a city press release. A white Ford Explorer pickup truck was traveling southbound when the vehicle reportedly went off the roadway to the right. It struck a mailbox and ditch before going airborne and coming to rest on its roof.

The driver’s injuries were not considered life-threatening. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

The road was closed temporarily for removal of the driver and vehicle form the ditch. Police are not seeking charges, according to the press release.
