Philip W. Wyne

NORFOLK — Philip Wirth Wyne, 81, passed away on Monday, Nov. 10, 2014. He was the son of the late Archie and Kathern Gott Wyne. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Johnny and Jimmy Wyne.

Mr. Wyne, known to many as “The Old Man,” was a retired lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, where he served in Korea and Vietnam. He owned several farms in the Suffolk area and was instrumental in starting the Suffolk Cotton Gin.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rose M. Wyne; daughter, Terri Lynn Reid and friend, Brandt; stepsons, James Delp and Ernest Delp; grandchildren, Stacie and husband, Carlos, Christie and husband, Joe, Josh and wife, Lauren, Sarah and husband, Justin; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Natalie, Caleb, Avery and Lilly. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to all of his loyal hay customers for the past 20 years, longtime friend, H. Wayne Perry, his friends at the Virginia Tech Research Center, the Carrsville Ruritan Club, and the staff at Sentara Hospice House for all they did to comfort our loved one.

A private memorial service was held at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. R.W.
