Walter R. Nurney

SUFFOLK — Walter Robert Nurney passed away Nov. 16, 2014, in Suffolk. He was the widower of Polly S. Nurney and the son of the late Maria and Robert Nurney.

He started his career in the insurance and annuity business more than 30 years ago when he started Nurney Agency. He also served in the Army National Guard for eight years. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Suffolk.

Survivors include his son, Robert W. Nurney, of Suffolk; sister-in-law, Sandra Rawls and husband, Eric, and their sons; and numerous cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at 11 a.m. in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 213 N. Main St., Suffolk, by the Rev. Keith Emerson, with the burial following a reception at the church at Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery beside his wife, Polly. The family will receive friends in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, on Friday, Nov. 21, 2014, from 7 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Suffolk Humane Society, American Cancer Society, or to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
