Suffolk Christian Knights fall in championship game

The Suffolk Christian Academy boys’ basketball team came close to taking home the title in front of the home crowd in the SCA Tip-Off Tournament, but it ultimately fell short, losing 75-72 to Peninsula Catholic High School on Saturday afternoon.
Junior forward Steven Effler led the Knights with 27 points, senior guard/forward Nathan Leiter scored 23 and sophomore forward Chaz Stone contributed 16.
In the third-place game earlier in the day, Grove Christian School defeated Victory Christian School 69-63.
All-tournament team selections for the boys included Peninsula Catholic sophomore forward Kyle Foster, senior guard Jacob Nadeau and senior center Eric Taleghani, Suffolk Christian’s Nathan Leiter and Grove Christian sophomore forward Samuel Harris.
For the girls, Victory Christian defeated Sweethaven Christian Academy 55-15 in Saturday’s championship game at the Liberty Outreach Center.
In the girls’ third-place game, the Lady Knights crushed Alliance Christian Academy 53-13 for their first win of the season.
All-tournament team selections for the girls included Victory Christian’s Randie Hewitt, Ayden Larabee and Leah Maclin, Sweethaven Christian sophomore Brittany Price and Suffolk Christian junior Zoie Howell.
