Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:
- Keyon Ross, senior for King’s Fork High School football: He was instrumental in keeping his team in the regional semifinal game against undefeated, No. 1-seeded Lake Taylor High School on Friday night. Despite the Bulldogs’ eventual 35-6 loss, he created a critical turnover just before halftime to keep the Bulldogs within eight at the time. He also unofficially contributed three tackles.
- Steven Effler, junior for Suffolk Christian Academy basketball: He played a crucial role in his team’s first victory in at least three years over the talented Yeshivas Aish Kodesh Talmudical Academy team. The host Knights trailed in double figures early, but with help from his 22 points and eight rebounds, they came back to win 59-53 on Monday night.
