Clothing drive a success

Local financial adviser Margie Wiley said the clothing drive she recently conducted at her office was so successful she plans to do it again next year.
It was in support of Dress for Success, which not only gives women appropriate clothes for an interview but also gives them help with writing a resume, interview tips and more clothing once they get hired.
“It went wonderfully,” Wiley said. “I don’t know the number, but I would say it was at least a hundred articles of clothing, maybe 150. It was really cool to watch.”
Shoes and purses also were donated so women can have appropriate accessories, Wiley said.
The women who receive the help come from disadvantaged backgrounds such as domestic abuse and other situations, Wiley said.
“It’s building up their self-esteem, teaching them how to write, speak, interview and be a contributing member of society,” she said. “It wasn’t just, ‘Here, we’re going to give you something;’ it was, ‘You have to earn it.’”
Wiley said she hopes to do the clothing drive again next fall.
“It just seemed like a good time of year to do it,” she said. “People are thinning out spring and summer stuff.”
Wiley also noted all of the clothing donated at her Edward Jones office went to Suffolk women.
“I’m very passionate about it,” she said.
