The grand jury on Wednesday indicted 29 defendants on 85 total charges.

Among them was Rhasheem Akeem “Rock White, who was 24 years old in May 2011 when he was charged with an attempted armed robbery that ended in a shooting.

According to police statements at the time, the incident happened on May 29, 2011. The victim reported he was standing on the corner of Wellons Street and Battery Avenue when he was approached by a black male who demanded money. The victim laughed at the suspect. When the suspect attempted to reach into the victim’s pocket, the two men began struggling.

The suspect then fired a gun several times, striking the victim in the foot once.

White, now 27, was indicted on charges of attempted robbery, malicious wounding, shoot, stab, cut or wound and two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

The three suspects in the murder and attempted robbery of 82-year-old businessman Donald Carter also were indicted. A full story on their indictments ran in Thursday’s edition.
