The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy girls’ basketball team was in a tied ballgame with two minutes and 30 seconds left on Thursday, but host Williamsburg Christian Academy went up and held the Lady Saints off for a clutch victory.
The Lady Eagles went up by five points with one minute left when NSA began fouling. WCA hit five of six free throws in the last minute of play to pull away.
Junior point guard Harper Birdsong was the Lady Saints’ only scorer in double figures, as she produced 19 points. Junior center Caroline Hogg added six points, five rebounds and six blocks, and sophomore forward Kelly Hogan grabbed a team-high eight boards.
Nansemond-Suffolk (3-1) visits Isle of Wight Academy on Friday.
