A Harbour View family is encouraging folks to support its annual food drive this weekend.
“It’s done by my family, and we just call on the community we live in to support the effort,” Victor Tohak said.
Canned and other non-perishable food items will be collected in the Riverfront Swim Club parking lot, 5301 Sports Club Run, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. this Saturday.
“People will be there to help them get items out of the car,” Tohak said.
Items will be donated to the Oasis Food Pantry in Portsmouth, which Tohak said is supported by his church, Church of the Resurrection in Portsmouth.
Tohak said it’s the food drive’s eighth year, and the need just keeps growing.
“It seems that each year the need is greater than the year before,” he said. “I know that the pantry pretty much gets emptied out at Thanksgiving time.
“They certainly could use any donations to finish up the year and start off the New Year on a positive balance.”
