Nansemond-Suffolk Academy continues a longstanding boys’ basketball tradition as it hosts the NSA Holiday Classic today and Saturday.
The event will function like a showcase with two pre-scheduled games set for each day. The teams participating along with the Saints include Broadwater Academy, Denbigh Baptist Christian School and Southampton Academy.
Nansemond-Suffolk director of boys’ athletics T.W. Johnson explained the idea behind the classic.
“I think it’s just an opportunity for teams, and certainly our team, to play in a tournament environment where you have multiple teams in one venue over a two-day span,” he said.
He noted how it is common to see high school teams involved in tournaments around the holidays.
“I think it’s fun for the players and the coaches and certainly good for our school community to be able to host three schools over the course of two days and have some good basketball on campus,” Johnson said.
Like the Saints’ normal games, there will be no charge for admission.
NSA’s boys’ basketball team will be looking to get back to .500 as it currently holds a 1-3 record.
