Plane crash-lands near Chesapeake airport

A small plane crash-landed in a swampy area near the Hampton Roads Executive Airport in Chesapeake on Tuesday afternoon, causing a minor injury to the passenger’s hand.
The pilot and passenger reported the single-engine Cessna began experiencing engine trouble when it got near the airport and crashed about 2:31 p.m., according to a news release from the Virginia State Police.
The crash site, in Suffolk, is about one mile southwest of the airport, according to the state police.
Both men left the plane and made their way to the airport on foot.
Suffolk Police and Fire and Chesapeake Police and Fire responded to the scene, as well as the State Police. The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries’ Conservation Police is set to provide equipment to enable law enforcement to reach the plane.
The Federal Aviation Administration is responding, and the National Transportation Safety Board has been notified.
